Drinking enough liquids is absolutely essential, especially for those traveling by plane. That dry, stuffy cabin air is not your skin’s friend. Do you ever notice how your face always feels gross after a flight? Yep, that’s because of the stale air circulating around you. Try to drink a large water bottle on the way to the airport and bring a reusable bottle to fill up before your flight. It’s also a good idea to stop at the grocery store once you arrive at your destination to buy a case of water bottles to keep in your hotel room (if you do not have access to purified water).
I also like to have a couple bottles of Kombucha on hand to keep the bacteria in my gut healthy. When we’re away from home and not preparing our own food, our gut bacteria can get a little out of whack. Sipping on kombucha is a great and not to mention, tasty way to help maintain this good bacteria and healthy digestion.
Try to squeeze a workout into your day! This could be as simple as a 10 minute bodyweight workout in your hotel room, a jog around the local town you’re visiting, a weight circuit in the hotel gym, or a fitness class at a studio (a lot of places offer free weeks that you could utilize while you’re visiting). It’s so important to stay active, even on vacation! This is especially true after you have been sitting on a plane or in a car for several hours. Now by all means, vacations are meant to be relaxing and rejuvenating. That doesn’t mean you can’t fit in a quick workout before you relax though!
3. Stock up on healthy snacks
The first stop I make on my way from the airport to my hotel is always the local grocery store. I stock up on fresh produce, water, and snack staples that I normally have at home to keep my body on somewhat of a routine. Here is what you can always find in my hotel fridge:
Bananas (not in fridge)
Dark chocolate (for a treat!)
4. Walk everywhere
The best way to explore a new city is traveling by foot. You can completely immerse yourself in the local culture and discover places that may not be accessible by car. Not to mention, walking is a great way to get outside and keep your body moving. Just make sure to wear comfortable shoes!
5. Bring digestive enzymes
I never leave home without digestive enzymes. These little guys are your stomach’s best friend, especially when eating away from home! Digestive enzymes are a capsule you take before a meal to help your body digest the food easier and absorb all the nutrients. I keep them in my purse when I’m out and about so I don’t forget to take one before enjoying a meal. Remember, it’s all about balance. Let yourself enjoy the local cuisine or dessert - it’s a vacation for goodness sake!
