Budapest | Hungary

Budapest is the tale of two cities. With hilly Buda on one side of the Danube River and flat Pest on the other, it's the perfect combination of past, present, and future.

If you're looking for a destination that offers history, architecture and a contagiously good vibe, then look no further than Budapest, Hungary.

When I set out for my three month jaunt of Europe, Budapest was not on my list of places to go this time around. I ended up there completely on a whim. Maybe it was George Ezra's catchy tune that put Budapest on the map for me, or maybe it was simply meant to be. Either way, I can honestly say booking a ticket to this beautiful city was the best decision I have ever made.

Unknowingly, I arrived during the Sziget Music Festival, so the city was overflowing with travelers from around the world. Mostly Aussies though, because the Aussies are everywhere... but I truly believe the people make the destination. Meeting so many fellow solo travelers, swapping stories over beers, and molding friendships immediately with people you only met moments ago is the essence of travel. And I found just that in Budapest.

The city itself is vibrant, breathtaking and enchanting. From Buda Castle to the Parliament Building and all the bridges in between, there was barely a moment I wasn't trying to capture all I could see. There are plenty of spots to grab panoramic views of the entire city, and once the sun sets, Parliament and the Chain Bridge become even more enticing as they light up the night sky.

And then there's the Eastern European charm... perhaps I noticed this more after spending a significant amount time immersed in the more reserved Danish culture, but there is a contagiously good vibe about Budapest. You can't help but enjoy yourself when the energy surrounding you is nothing but good.

Simply put, Budapest is one of those cities I will visit time and time again and it will always have a piece of my heart which is more than okay with me.
